In these times of ready-made solutions offered on a silver platter, healing yourself may seem a legitimate adventure.
It’s because we’re used to associating the idea of ‘healing’ with an external agent which comes and performs some kind of beneficial act with immediate effects upon us.
But what if you give up on that comfortable mindset and ditch the idea of external healing in favour of a deeply transformative one like internally-driven focus on changing oneself?
Not the easiest thing to do, indeed. Especially because human nature has a tendency to stick to the habitual, tried-and-tested or well-defined headspace. In what follows, this article will give you 6 reasons why this happens so you’ll hopefully stick to the commitment of revolutionizing your life positively.
As soon as you commit to effecting a major change, you practically sign up for a plethora of unknown effects.
Healing yourself means you submit your will to whatever is going to happen and this may generate a certain amount of confusion at first.
Another reason change can seem so scary at the beginning of your journey is the tendency to isolate yourself and overthink each and every tiny aspect of your new life.
This happens because we generally relish in feeling unique and this feeling is accentuated when we undergo an adjustment phase.
If you, however, surround yourself with people going through a similar experience, you’ll see them struggling in similar ways and realize there’s no reason to feel overwhelmed.Â
On our path to healing ourselves, we learn that we first see the minuses (i.e. the things we give up on) and it may take a while until the pluses pop up.
If you shield yourself with realistic expectations, it’s going to be easier for you to identify the things you lose as a build-up to the great gain of changing and healing yourself.
Doubt is the most identifiable symptom for people who engage in a complete turnabout in their lives.
It takes very little for doubt to develop into unrest. This happens because you’re not yet accustomed to controlling these states of turmoil. If you were, you would take them as natural reactions of your mind which has not yet identified enough rewards.
You’re an adult and you’ve decided to turn your life around and make the most of your potential.
So far so good.
A few days or weeks pass and results are not what you would’ve expected. They are either non-existent or too insignificant in the grand scheme you are envisioning.
So you naturally get scared of this lack of ‘results’. Of wasting your time. Of having potentially proceeded on the wrong path.
Is it really the case? Or is it your brain being too obsessed with ticking quantifiable boxes to justify the extra effort you’re doing?
It is the latter – and it has stopped lots of people from pursuing the road to transformation.
Lastly, the process of change can be intimidating due to hardships.
Indeed, some of the changes you’re effecting on your lifestyle will seem like roadblocks. Until you realize it’s just your mind which has to change the perspective and see the blocks less as something fixed and more as springboards.
Once you do that, you’ll realize how much can hardships toughen you up and strengthen your mind for even bigger challenges.
All that’s been said above only proves healing is in the mind of the beholder.
Because you have it in you to find the right resources for growth. You’ve been made for thriving – it only takes a little time to dig for the necessary commitment and bravery
